Sam Crooks was born and brought up in Ireland. He came to Milton Keynes to work at the Open University. He then became the director of London University's International Programme before going to France to manage the largest full-time MBA programme in the world outside the United States. He now runs an educational software company.
He is a member of the General Teaching Council, the national professional body for teachers, and a governor of Falcolnhurst, Middleton, Broughton Fields and St. Bernadette's Schools.
He is a former Leader of the Council and is now responsible for its Finance & School build / maintenance functions.
He is a member of the Thames Valley Police Authority and chairs the local Milton Keynes Police Committee. He is also member of the Management Board overseeing the introduction of neighbourhood policing and the new PCSOs.
He is a magistrate and a member of the Bletchley Park Trust.
He is a member of Buckinghamshire Historic Buildings Trust and secretary of the Ecumenical Partnership of Christ the Cornerstone in the city centre.
